Hayfever
So now that the first flowers are out and the trees are showing their new
leaves the first signs of hayfever appear. For some it is minor but many do
suffer greatly.
Do not despair, help is at hand. If you go for a walk in the countryside you
will note that the stinging nettles and ribwort are now growing.
A very effective remedy for hayfever is a tea made of: camomile, nettles,
ribwort, elderflower and eyebright.
Nettle is a very good blood cleanser, antiallergy, antihistamine and contains
loads of iron and other minerals, effectively strengthening the immune system.
On drying or infusing in hot water it loses its sting.
Camomile with its large amount of essential oils is also antiallergy and
anti-inflammatory.
Ribwort has antibiotic action on the mucous membranes and also has the ability
to regulate the amount of mucus produced. Elderflowers are not yet in flower but
can be collected later and make a very effective anti-allergy remedy.
Eyebright is very drying on the mucus membranes and if eyes and nose are
streaming, which is very distressing especially for those taking exams at this
time, it is the herb of choice.
Some people seem to suffer from hayfever, allergic rhinitis, for most of the
year and by strengthening the mucus membranes this can be eliminated!
There really is no need to suffer.
Ideally one should start taking a mixture of these herbs in February, before
flowering, but any time is good.
Take 1-2 teaspoons of the herb mixture, add boiling water and brew in a covered
teapot for 7 minutes, strain and drink. You may add honey but no sugar and milk.
3 -4 cups daily may be taken. All these herbs are very safe, but make sure you
pick the right herb. If in doubt contact me.
If you are interested I will hold a herbal walk.
Love and light
