Reiki - A Personal View.

Reiki is a wonderful healing system which enables you to receive or channel the energy of the universe. This re-balances and flushes our blockages and toxins to your system, thereby working effectively on Spiritual, Physical and Emotional Health simultaneously.

Receiving a Reiki Treatment is a fully clothed hands on procedure rather like being bathed in love and warmth.  There is rarely any movement of the hands other than the progress over all of the traditional hand positions.  At worst Reiki will give you some time of peace and calm to relax and unwind, at its best Reiki can make a major difference to any ailment physical or spiritual that you may have.

Most Reiki practitioners like to give at least three treatments in an initial course, but this does differ from one practioner to another.

The most important thing about Reiki is IT WORKS! Even on people who think that it is all a load of Tree Hugging Hippy Rubbish.

Remember to drink plenty of fluids after the treatment to help flush out the toxins that the Reiki has started to remove from your system.

Attunements.

There are three levels of Reiki Attunement, each designed for a specific purpose.

Initiate - Level One - Heal Thyself.

Practitioner - Level Two - Heal Others.

Master - Level Three - Help Others to Heal.

Although it has now become a trend to have our level one and two attunements together, there are Masters who will happily attune you to all three levels in one weekend.

Please remember though that the attunement may open the door to Reiki, but it doesn't channel the energy, You do! So if you need healing you will be absorbing the Reiki yourself as you channel, so in a way you get a double whammy in that you will be healing yourself as you are healing another, but also you will be passing on less of that healing energy to the other person than you would be if you had previously spent some time just healing yourself.

This brings me to the Funnel Theory.  Reiki is universal healing energy, which once acknowledged can flow through any being on the planet.  To start if may only be a trickle of energy, but the more and more you use it the "wider" the stream of energy becomes, until if flows true and strong like a river.  This is pretty much the nature of all things, not just Reiki, "Practice makes perfect" the saying goes.

So here we have two scenarios:-

One.

You have your level one attunement, spend time working on yourself, heal and understand the healing process for you, which will help when the time comes to heal others, because having experienced the way Reiki has worked within you, you can explain to others how it may feel when Reiki is working to heal them.

You Reiki yourself and use Reiki to the point when it becomes second nature and you feel calm and confident with it.

You have your level two attunement and start using your Reiki for the benefit of others. This can be quite enough for most people who have a desire to heal, and the more you work on others the more people you will find to heal and the easier the Reiki flows through you, leading to a real sense of fulfilment and satisfaction.

Your Reiki Master invites you to have the Third Level Attunement, so you too can pass on the wonderful gift of healing to others.

Two.

You have your Reiki Level One attunement, and don't really do a lot with it.  You forget to Reiki yourself regularly and end up feeling not a great deal different.

You decide that it would be good to heal others so you take your Reiki Level 2 or Practitioner attunement.  Now you do Reiki on the odd person here and there, maybe your friends and family for a while until the novelty wears off and life takes over the desire to practice.

If you are sensible, you stop there, if not you go on for your Master or Level 3 attunement and a new master is unleashed onto the world with little or no experience in any of the true aspects of Reiki. Having skipped and hopped through periods which ideally should have been used for self healing and balancing, cleansing and calming the channel, and then healing others so that learning is taking place with every new patient and every new problem faced and worked on.

Traditionally Level 3 or Master was not available to the practitioner unless his or her master invited her/him to take the level attunement.

I am not telling you all this from a pious "I am better then you viewpoint", I am one of those inexperienced "Masters", referred to in the second scenario, who is back tracking their progression taking one step at a time, not just for me, but for the sake and survival of Reiki.

I did Level one as an experiment to see how if would affect my spiritual progression, not as a healing exercise at all, and I hardily used it. Back then I thought I was using it a lot, but now I realise that was just peanuts to what I could have been doing.  Then I did Levels 2 and 3 together, and here I am another Reiki "Master" who doesn't really deserve the title.

I had a handful of regulars who came for Reiki. I sometimes channel healing at my local spiritual centre.  I hear others talking of taking Reiki attunements and I sheepishly keep quiet, not because I am modest of my level, but because in a way I am ashamed to be one of the Reiki Fast Track Masters who has little or no experience.

For now I consider myself an Initiate to Reiki, and until I have passed this level truly to my satisfaction, I will remain so.

So If you are thinking about taking a Reiki attunement or moving up a level, take the time to think about it and why you want to commit to Reiki. After all in a way becoming a Reiki Master is akin to being Married, you are committing yourself to Reiki, to work with it, to love it, to understand it and to grow with it.
