The High Priestess

Have you ever thought that perhaps you are too tuned in to those around you, the elements of earth and spirit and are perhaps not worldly enough? That is the High Priestess in a nutshell.

Don't be fooled by the graceful female priestess in the card, she expresses the psychic in all of us, male or female, and our good intentions to help and guide others.

The High Priestess shows that we have a great deal of inner wisdom and a desire to see the good in all things and to help our fellow man to achieve their goals and find their strength. However people with this card tend to get far too involved with others and can put so much of their own energy into helping others that they tend to get the wool pulled over their eyes and end up feeling used and unloved.

The High Priestess is often flanked by two columns one black and one white, this is to show that she is an element striving for balance, balance between her physical and spiritual lives, balance between her darker and lighter sides and harmony between her desire to help others and her need to help herself.

She is not worldly, and can be naive at times, especially when she feels the attraction to a soul who is in need of inspiration. Because of this the High Priestess has often a chequered love life involving relationships with people who have not been very good for her, but these relationships have been necessary to teach her that sometimes a little distance from the problems of others is better than over absorption in them.

Yes she is highly tuned in to others, she has knowledge and foresight by the bucket load but she needs to learn the key of protecting her spirit by sometimes just closing the door rather than pursuing a course which although asked for by another is not truly wanted.

So when you see the High Priestess in a spread for yourself or another, please please please pass on that YES this person is very spiritual, loving knowledgeable and giving, but they do need to exercise a little caution with people and make sure with themselves that involvement in someone else's life and problems is really a good thing, and not going to end up with them putting their life on hold for someone else who really needs to be making the effort themselves.
