The Magician.

The Magician is card number one in the Tarot Deck and has also been called the Juggler.

He shows us that there is an art to be learned in life and a deception we all carry out in putting on a brave face, a kind of I'm OK Jack image, when all is not as easy or second nature as it may appear.

When the Magician comes up in a spread it is telling us that the questioner is putting a brave face on the situation, outwardly appearing calm and collected, almost arrogant about the way he/she can deal with the current situation as if they have faced it many times before.  This of course is not the reality of the Magician's position.  He is trying to deceive the eye and trick us into believing that anything is possible while inwardly shaking in his boots and worrying that he is not going to pull off this particular trick.

Just think of the times you have seen a magician or similar performer on stage.  They look so cool and confident, they move with an ease and grace that leads us to believe very much in them and their abilities.  They on the other hand may be terrified that the trick or illusion will misfire, that this is the first time they have performed in front of so many people and other such fears, but they do not show it. This is the true art of the magician.

And so the Fool moves forward from his naive enthusiasm; to fear that he won't be up to the task but trying to maintain a cool exterior so as not to give away his inexperience.

If you are represented by the Magician you need to know one really important thing.  If you need help or are truly unsure ASK! Don't blunder along with an air of "I'm doing great thanks" and later complain that no-one offered to help you when you were new to the task.
